Dubai: The Dubai Health Authority’s (DHA) smart clinic has warned the public against the excessive use of smart devices that could lead to serious side effects including nearsightedness and dry eye.

The smart clinic issued a number of medical advices for patients to help them avoid eye diseases and risk factors. It also provided medical consultations on how to deal with any serious symptoms that could cause blindness at a later stage in life.

Dr Tawfiq Al Hakim, ophthalmologist at Dubai Hospital, reviewed various eyes diseases that could occur later in life including myopia, farsightedness, glaucoma (blue water), cataract (white water), strabismus, amblyopia and keratoconus among other diseases. He highlighted the importance of detecting these diseases early and taking necessary medical procedures to avoid possible complications.

Dr Al Hakim also stressed the importance of making regular eye examinations for children between four and six years to detect amblyopia that might result from strabismus or uncorrected refractive error.

He spoke about retinopathy that is caused by diabetes and infects retinal vascular, adding that diabetic patients must constantly maintain balanced blood sugar levels.

Dr Al Hakim addressed the viral conjunctivitis and the spring one and its relation with asthma and allergy stimulants, recommending all patients to stay away from all stimulants including dust, smoke and domestic mites.

The DHA’s smart clinic has also showcased a number of state-of-the-art services provided by the Dubai Hospital in the treatment of eye diseases for all ages according to the latest global medical practices.
