Riyadh - Data from the Saudi Electricity Company showed that 77 percent of residents, or 5.5 million people, were not affected by the new electricity tariff during the month of June, while the remaining 23 percent did feel the effects of the tariff.

A report by the company said that 22.4 percent of consumption bills fell within the private consumption category this month, from 1 to 1,000kWh, meaning the value of their consumption was SR50 or less. The next category from 1001 to 2000kWh encompassed 21.9 percent of the total bills during the month, with this group paying a total of SR100 or less.

Beyond this, some 19.3 percent of bills fell into the category of 2001 to 3000kWh, and their bills exceeded SR200, while those in the consumption class of between 3001 and 4,000kWh per month represented 13.6 percent of the total number of consumers, with these bills exceeding SR300. The report pointed out that the new tariff affected those who consume more than 4001kWh per month, which accounts for 23 percent of the total number of participants who were issued bills this month.
